The Dead-Tossed Waves

by Carrie Ryan
Published: 2010
Pages: 404
Series: The Forest of Hands and Teeth (#2)
Review from my Goodreads account

Actual rating: 3.5 stars

Gabry has lived in Vista all her life in the Lighthouse with her mother. One night, Gabry and friends cross the border that separates them from the Mudo and the infection that has all but destroyed the earth. After things go horribly wrong, Gabry's world falls apart. Heartache, betrayl, lying, adventures, and escaping into the unknown are all that she knows now. Will Gabry's world ever make sense again?

While this is the 2nd book in the series, it is not necessary to read the first one The Forest of Hands and Teeth to understand the events in this one, although it is a bit helpful to have a background on the Return and Gabry's mother.

Originally, I was going to give this 3 stars. I was so angry that Gabry chose Elias over Catcher. YOU BARELY KNOW HIM. GOD. But the ending saved it. I LOVE THE ENDING SO MUCH.

Anyway, it took me FOREVER to read this book. The beginning was so slow.  About page 200 or so it finally picked up and I was able to read from page 262 through the rest of the book in one sitting.

Complaints:
I didn't find Elias and Gabry's relationship very solid. -.5 stars
Catcher (the one I love soooo much!) turned into this jerk. Ew. -.5 stars.
I found Gabry to be whiny. I had a love-hate relationship with her. In the end, I liked her well enough. -1 star

Why then, is this a 3.5 instead of a 3? Because of this. (Yes, I've already said this in my GR review, but...)
THE ENDING. OH MY GOD THAT ENDING. <3 +.5 stars

Who should read it: YA romance readers with a soft spot for zombies and a liking for dystopian fiction.

As the Sirens Sound

As I sit on my bed, trying to get iTunes to open so I can load the Band Perry's CD to my iPod, two ambulances race down the road. It's not unusual to hear sirens where I live. I'm only a couple blocks of the junctions of 8 state routes and not too far from the fire department and the police station. I've become so used to the wailing waxing and waning as emergency crews go out of town, I usually just tune them out.
But tonight, these sirens had me thinking. Where are they going? What's wrong? Who's hurt? Is the victim going to survive? Oh God, what if it's someone I know? Well, whoever it is, whatever is wrong, I pray everything turns out okay.
Wow. This is an oddly serious post for me. Since this is only my second post, you probably don't know that I'm not usually such a melancholy person, but tonight I am.
Weird.

THE STATS:
Last Thing I read: The Dead-Tossed Waves by Carrie Ryan
Last Song: Every Heart by BoA (Japanese Version)
Last Person/Thing I Talked To: My cat, Lucy
Mood: Melancholy
Lowest Grade Is In: AP Government and Politics (UGH. SHOOT ME NOW.)

An Introduction

As I sit here and ponder why I created this blog, I should be reading The Canterbury Tales for AP English or making a study sheet for AP Gov, or even trying to find my headphones so I don't lose my mind at work tomorrow. However, it seems that I can't focus my attention on what I should be doing. Hmm...

ELSEWHERE
Ahem... well... Why did I make this blog? Honestly, I have NO idea. Will people read it? Maybe. Will people care? Maybe.

About me:
I'm just your girl, trying to figure out and enjoy this crazy thing called life. I know what I want to do, what I should do, and what I can do, but that doesn't mean I can distinguish between them at all times. I love reading, writing, cooking, shopping, and just being weird in general. Which I'm good at.  XD
Maybe I'll post something more entertaining.

I'll probably post my thoughts on books I read, songs I hear, movies, video games, etc. etc. etc.

So... Stick around?
